Moped Operator Killed by Tractor-Trailer in I-95 Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

An accident involving a large tractor-trailer usually results in the other vehicle taking the the brunt of the damage. This is especially true when the other vehicle is a moped. Unfortunately, we saw just how awful this type of accident is when a moped operator was killed on I-95 in Lumberton, North Carolina (NC).

This tragic crash occurred at around 5 am, when a moped being operated by Roxanee Jones was rear-ended by a tandem tractor-trailer. The accident was so severe that it ruptured the tractor-trailer’s fuel tanks and caused a fire, according to the FayObserver.com. The at-fault truck driver did not suffer any injuries in the accident.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Jones’ family. Losing someone you love is a heartbreaking event and it is especially difficult when the loss occurred in a sudden, unexpected accident.

No charges have been filed yet against the at-fault big rig operator, but an investigation is being conducted as to what caused this fatal NC crash. Was the at-fault driver distracted? Were they fatigued? We will have to wait and see what the investigation reveals.

If the at-fault driver was operating a commercial tractor-trailer, they are required to comply with federal trucking regulations. To learn more, check out this page of information about commercial trucking accident law.
