Motor Bike Rider Killed in Brunswick County Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

Thomas Varney, a resident of Virginia (VA), was traveling on his motorcycle through Brunswick County, North Carolina (NC) when he was hit by a police vehicle and died as a result. The wreck happened near Calabash at the intersection of Old Ocean Highway and Shingle Tree.

The Brunswick County deputy who was involved in the fatal accident is now facing criminal charges, including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield, according to wwaytv3.com.

The North Carolina Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

Mr. Varney’s family should speak with a North Carolina wrongful death attorney since they may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Just because the deputy is facing criminal charges does not preclude the family from seeking some semblance of justice through a wrongful death claim in the civil justice system.
