Motorcyclist Dies after Running Red Light and Slamming into Minivan

A tragic motorcycle accident that occurred over Memorial Day weekend in Wake County, N.C. left one man dead and a young teen injured.

According to reports issued by the North Carolina Highway Patrol, at approximately 9 p.m., the deceased victim, a 26-year-old man from Raleigh, was driving his motorcycle on U.S. 401 when he ran a red light at Forestville Road. The man drove the motorcycle into a mini-van, which was being driven by a 16-year-old girl. The man was killed instantly. The impact of the crash was so hard that the front wheel of the bike ended up several yards away from the rest of the motorcycle, which was completely mangled.

There was no one else in the van with the young driver. Police report she was transferred to WakeMed Hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained in the crash.

All four northbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours as police conducted an investigation of the fatal crash.

Although law enforcement has not released a final report in the fatal crash, many of the known factors appear to indicate that the motorcyclist caused the accident when he failed to stop for the red light. If this is the final determination, the injured driver of the minivan could have a legal claim against the motorcyclist’s estate.
