NC Man Struck by Amtrak Train, Injures Hand | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Railroads don’t only have a responsibility to get us from Point A to Point B: they must do so with safety in mind, both for passengers and those outside the train. When railroad companies don’t keep safety in mind, it can cause serious accidents . According to firefighters in Richmond, North Carolina (NC), a man’s hand was mangled after he was hit by an Amtrak train at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011.

Captain William M. Martin stated that according to a conductor, the unidentified man was believed to be homeless, and the train was traveling at roughly 12 miles an hour at the time of the NC accident. The victim was taken to the VCU Medical Center for emergency medical treatment.

Below is another saddening report of a man hit and killed by a train.

Don’t let yourself become a victim of a terrible train crash. Watch out for flashing lights and clanging bells that indicate a train is approaching. It doesn’t pay to try and beat the train across the tracks, whether on foot or in a vehicle. You will like losing the race, and possibly your life, in a deadly train wreck.
