New Bern NC Mom Charged With DUI in Death of Daughter | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

A 24 year-old mother was driving in New Bern, North Carolina, when she apparently crossed the center line and smashed head on into an oncoming SUV. The mother’s six year-old daughter was killed in the wreck. The driver has been charged with driving under the influence.

The driver of the SUV and her two year-old son also were injured and taken to the hospital.

Police reported that the alleged drunk driver’s daughter had on her lap belt but not a shoulder belt. More charges could be pending on the mother.

North Carolina Personal Injury Perspective:

Drunk driving accidents are terrible, but there is little worse than a drunk driving accident that kills a child. It’s even worse when the at-fault driver appears to be the child’s own mother. This tragedy could have been avoided, but is all too common. According to the CDC, about 30 people are killed in drunk driving accidents every day.

The driver and child in the other vehicle were two more victims of this senseless accident. They deserve to be represented by experienced personal injury lawyers who win maximum settlements against convicted drunk drivers. Experienced personal injury lawyers in the area of drunk driving can help the injured obtain big settlements for lost wages, medical expenses and pain and suffering.

We extend our sympathies to the injured parties in this case.
