New Nightingale Helicopter Arrives at Sentara Norfolk Genreal Hospital | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Sentara Healthcare’s Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance Service has finally acquired its new helicopter.  a Eurocopter EC-145 costing $7.2 million, arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia (VA), in early June 2011. Crew members will spend several weeks preparing the helicopter for full operational status.

The Sentara Health Foundation is just $500,000 away from its goal of $3.5 million to contribute towards paying for the new chopper. Sentara will pay the rest. According to the Virginian-Pilot, major donors include the cities of Hampton and Newport News, VA, Currituck, Pasquotank, and Camden counties in North Carolina (NC); Emergency Medical Services; Birdsong Corp.; Newport News Shipbuilding; TowneBank Foundation; SunTrust Bank; Beazley Foundation; and Obici Healthcare Foundation.

In my practice as a Virginia and Carolina personal injury lawyer, I am glad to hear this news. Many of my clients, particularly in car and motorcycle accidents, have been rushed to the hospital in the Nightingale helicopter. In some cases, I don’t think they would be alive today were it not for Nightingale.
