Newport News, VA Panhandler Struck by Vehicle | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A crash near the Newmarket South Shopping Center in Newport News, Virginia (VA), sent three people, including a panhandler, to the hospital with injuries. According to the Virginian-Pilot, A BMW heading east on Mercury Boulevard was making a left onto Newmarket Drivewhen it was struck by an SUV heading west. The BMW then ran up onto the median and hit a man standing there.

Newport News prohibits people from soliciting in medians because doing so is unsafe. Simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time can put your life at risk. The panhandler is lucky that this crash wasn’t worse. Car accidents are always scary, but when a vehicle hits a pedestrian, fatality rates skyrocket.

My thoughts go out to all the victims involved. As a Newport News personal injury attorney, I’ve seen many car accidents occur in busy shopping areas like this one. Always make sure to drive defensively, especially when making left-hand turns.
