Newport News, VA School Bus Involved in Crash That Injured Student | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A Newport News, Virginia (VA), school bus carrying 17 students was involved in a crash in which a car rear-ended the bus. The bus was taking elementary, middle and high school students home following an afterschool program, and the driver was making a left-hand turn from Beechmont Drive when the collision occurred.

Though no citations were issued at the scene, the bus sustained major damage and one of the students requested medical attention.

Drivers at fault for rear-end accidents frequently ignore the basics of safely sharing the road with school buses. Some drivers aren’t even aware of laws about stopping for a school bus that has its flashing lights activated and stop sign raised. Thankfully, this bus wasn’t stopping to let students off, or the injuries may have been more serious.

As experienced Virginia accident injury attorneys, my colleagues and I see accidents involving school buses far too often. Many of them are even more serious than this wreck in Newport News. When your child is hurt, you need to hire the best, most-experienced attorney you can.
