North Carolina Deputy Dies in Crash With Tractor Trailer

A tractor trailer driver in Monroe, North Carolina (NC) has been charged in a crash that killed a sheriff’s deputy yesterday.

The Union County, NC deputy was killed at an intersection of Highway 74 in Monroe. Two other people also were injured.

The driver of the truck had minor injuries and is at a local hospital. He is being charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

The deputy’s patrol car was pulled over in a turning lane when the big rig rolled over onto the car as well as another vehicle. It appeared that the tractor trailer may have hit another truck and then rolled over.

In our legal cases as truck crash personal injury lawyers, we have often seen the terrible results of truck driver carelessness. Such a large and heavy vehicle can cause fatal injuries if the driver is reckless for just a moment. In one case in 2010, we obtained a $3.5 million settlement for a client who was driving his car slowly after a tire problem. The car was rear ended by a careless truck driver, which killed our client.

We wish that truck drivers would be more careful in their work so that terrible accidents such as the one above would never happen again.
