Ohio Man Killed in Portsmouth After Being Thrown From Motorcycle | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

One man lost his life in a motorcycle crash early on the morning of June 17, 2011. The accident occurred on Frederick Blvd. near Hampton Avenue in Portsmouth, Virginia (VA).

At about 12:35 am, a 28-year-old man was riding his motorcycle and was thrown from it. He died immediately, at the scene of the crash. The Virginian-Pilot stated that excessive speed may have been a factor in the accident.

It is sad to note that the crash was not uncommon; many people suffer serious injuries in motorcycle accidents. In fact, there have been six motorcycle crashes in Hampton Roads in the past month alone.

As Virginia personal injury lawyers, we strongly recommend anyone who owns and operates a motorcycle to get as much insurance coverage as they can. Why? Because even the slightest error or mishap can lead to a serious, life-altering injury like paralysis or a traumatic brain injury.

In Virginia, there is something called “medpay.” You should definitely get medpay coverage on your automobile insurance policy. It requires your insurance company to cover up to $25,000 of medical bills following an accident. Signing up for this additional coverage generally costs very little and makes it possible for injured victims to ensure ome or part of their medical treatment expenses get reimbursed by their own insurer as well as by the insurance company holding the policy for an at-fault driver.
