One Dead and Several Injured After DWI Accident in Charlotte, NC | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

All too often, we hear that someone decided to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and caused an accident. And all too often, that accident either caused severe injuries or took the lives of innocent victims.

This happened again on February 24, 2012, in northwest Charlotte, North Carolina (NC). A crash occurred when a Ford Expedition sideswiped another vehicle while traveling on Bellhaven Boulevard and ran off the road. The SUV then traveled down an embankment, went airborne and struck a brick wall. The SUV’s driver and several others in the vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and anter passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say both alcohol and speed were both factors in this accident. The driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated, and felony death by vehicle charges are pending against him as well.

My deepest sympathies go out to the family of the deceased, and I hope all others make complete recoveries from their injuries. While no amount of money can adequately compensate for the loss of a loved one, but the family of someone who dies as a result of someone else’s negligence is entitled to monetary compensation.
