Pamlico County, North Carolina School Bus Wreck Injures at Least 9 Students | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A Pamlico County, North Carolina school bus accident involving a six-wheel box truck injured ten people which included students. Emergency personnel were on the scene of the wreck at Highway 55 near
Reelsboro, North Carolina (N.C.). Officials report that nine students and the driver of the 2-ton box truck went to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, North Carolina (N.C.).

Pamlico County Middle School principal, Lisa Jackson, announced that none of the injuries seem to be life-threatening. The school bus was taking the students to Pamlico County Middle School and High School when the school bus wreck happened during their normal morning route.

According to authorities the school bus driver was completely stopped when the truck rear-ended the bus. The impact pushed the bus a distance from where it was stopped. News agencies reported that the school bus was stoppedto pick up a child when the truck came up and rear ended  the PamlicoCounty bus without stopping and without warning. The bus had its red flashing lights on and the trooper’s report said the bus driver saw the approaching truck and knew that she was going to be hit so she didn’t open
the door for the child.

Sidney Roundtree from Grifton, North Carolina (N.C.) has been charged withunsafe movement and having no operator’s license. The Highway Patrol says nine students were taken to the hospital by rescue crews, three were brought in by their parents, while another four are being brought in from the school. The trooper says the students received mostly neck and back injuries. The Pamlico County, North Carolina students injured range in age from 11 to 17 years old. School officials say there were 27 students on the bus.
