Passengers Injured in Car Accident Caused by Drunk Driver | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Two passengers suffered serious injuries after the car they were in hit an embankment and flipped over in Montgomery County, Virginia (VA). Was this accident the result of a mechanical issue? Maybe a blown tire? No. The driver of the car appears to have been intoxicated. Police have charged him with driving under the influence, according to wset.com.

Hearing about these types of serious car accidents is always frustrating. If only the driver had exercised a little more responsibility and opted not to drink and drive, maybe this car wreck could have been averted. Unfortunately, we’ll always be left to wonder, “What if?”

The two injured passengers are currently in the hospital being treated and there is no word as to their condition and when they’ll be able to be released. It could be a few days, or it could be a few months depending on the severity of their injuries.

In 2009, approximately 316 people were killed and over 6,200 people suffered injuries in alcohol-related car crashes, according to the VA DMV. These numbers are far too high considering many of these car accidents were preventable. I know it’s been said before, but it bears repeating – don’t drink and drive.
