Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Pickup Truck in Winston-Salem, NC | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

According to WFMY News, a man was struck and killed by a pickup traveling on New Walkerton Road in Winston-Salem, NC just before 7 pm on February 17, 2012. The victim was attempting to cross the street. Initially transported to the hospital, he later died from his injuries. My deepest sympathies go out to the family of the victim.

As of this time, no charges have been filed against the driver, but the investigation is still ongoing. If it is found that the driver was negligent in his actions, the family of the victim may want to contact an experienced North Carolina wrongful death attorney to discuss their options regarding filing a wrongful death claim.

There may be many reasons that the driver could be found negligent in this situation. Driving while distracted by talking or texting on a phone, being impaired by alcohol or drugs, being drowsy or falling asleep at the wheel or simply not paying attention could all be reasons for which a wrongful death claim could be viable.

While receiving a monetary settlement could never adequately compensate for the loss of a loved one, the family of the victim is still entitled to receive compensation for their physical loss and emotional suffering. My colleagues and I strive to make the process as easy and painless as possible when assisting clients in wrongful death claims.
