Pedestrian Injured in Newport News Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

A pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk on the 500 block of Bland Boulevard in Newport News, Virginia (VA) when a Honda Accord went over the curb and hit the pedestrian. The victim, a 43-year-old woman, was injured and had to be taken to the hospital.

The at-fault vehicle reportedly stopped after the accident and at least one of three men inside the car spoke to the woman, according to the Virginian Pilot. However, the car subsequently decided to leave the scene of the accident.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

The injured pedestrian should consider speaking with a Newport News personal injury lawyer to discuss her legal options. The fact that the driver decided to leave the scene of the accident before police arrived means this accident may qualify as a hit and run. Just because an individual in the vehicle allegedly spoke to the woman does not excuse leaving her before police and/or an ambulance arrived.
