Pfizer Expected to Settle Premarin/Prempro Lawsuits | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Thousands of women who alleged they developed breast cancer and other diseases after taking Pfizer’s estrogen-based hormone replacement therapy products Prematin and Prempro are poised to receive shares a $300 million settlement being proposed by the drugmaker.

The dangerous drug lawsuits involved women all over the United States, including plaintiffs in Virginia (VA) and North Carolina (NC). The HRTproducts raised blood estrogen level during and after menopause, which relieved vaginal dryness, night sweats, hot flashes and bone breaks. At the same time, a study conducted as part of the Women’s Health Initiative revealed that long-term use of HRT raised women’s risks for breast cancer, heart attacks, blood clots, stroke and cardiovascular disease.
