A hit-and-run collision in Raeford, North Carolina (NC), on the morning of October 15, 2014, left a bicyclist dead. The fatal rear-end accident occurred at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street.
Police were called to the scene by another motorist who spotted the dying bike rider lying critically injured in the road. The at-fault driver had fled, leaving authorities seeking eyewitnesses and asking for information from people who may know the identity of the person who caused the crash. Anonymous tips can be called into the Raeford Police Department at (910) 875-4251.
My Carolina wrongful death attorney colleagues understand that each hit-and-run accident has the potential to leave victims and their family members physically disabled and financially incapacitated several times over. This is why we hope the at-fault driver is tracked down quickly. Holding that man or woman accountable in criminal and civil courts depends on learning the person's identity. Failing that, some compensation for accident- and death-related expenses such as funeral costs and loss of lifetime earnings could be available if the victim had his own automobile insurance policy with an uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) clause. Bringing such claims successfully can prove difficult, however, and even a paid UM/UIM claim represents nothing like justice.
Our condolences go out to the deceased bicyclist and his loved ones.
