RI Man Broadsides Police Cruiser | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A man was charged with DUI after broadsiding a Warwick, Rhode Island (RI) police cruiser on Monday, January 31st, 2011.

At 2:30 a.m. that day, the 38 year-old Scituate man’s car went through a stop sign and hit the cruiser at the intersection of Tollgate Road and Gilbert Street. Officer Christian Vargas was inside the cruiser on his way back to the police station with a prisoner. The pair had just returned from Kent Hospital, where the prisoner had been. After the accident, the officer and prisoner were taken back to the same hospital, where they were treated and released for injuries related to the crash.

The driver in question is charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and several moving violations.

If you know that you will be indulging in alcohol, be sure to select a designated driver for your ride home. If you have substance abuse issues with illegal drugs like marijuana, get professional help by a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. Being under the influences of such substances is not an excuse to cause accidents-quite the opposite, in fact. The case against a drug driver doesn’t always end in criminal court. Sometimes that is just the beginning.

If you think that you have a case against a DUI driver, contact an experienced personal injury attorney.
