Risks for Large Truck Accidents Rise After Sun Sets

Comments (0)
In his latest post to the Virginia Trucking Accident/Injury Blog, my colleague Rick Shapiro notes that one-third of fatal traffic accidents involving tractor trailers, 18-wheelers and other large trucks occur between 8 pm and 7 am. He explains that so many serious truck accidents occur during the night because truckers do not always get enough rest--driving past the point of fatigue--and because drivers "over drive" their headlights. Over driving headlights means driving so fast that the distance required to come to a complete stop is longer than the distance the vehicle's headlights allow the driver to see clearly.
