Risks for Large Truck Accidents Rise After Sun Sets | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

In his latest post to the Virginia Trucking Accident/Injury Blog, my colleague Rick Shapiro notes that one-third of fatal traffic accidents involving tractor trailers, 18-wheelers and other large trucks occur between 8 pm and 7 am. He explains that so many serious truck accidents occur during the night because truckers do not always get enough rest–driving past the point of fatigue–and because drivers “over drive” their headlights. Over driving headlights means driving so fast that the distance required to come to a complete stop is longer than the distance the vehicle’s headlights allow the driver to see clearly.
