Roanoke Drunk Driver Sentenced to 8 Years

A man from Roanoke, VA who drove drunk the wrong way on I-81 in June 2014 has been sentenced for injuring two teenagers, getting eight years in state prison.

Police stated that the driver got onto I-81 in the wrong direction by going up the exit ramp on exit 132. He was going south on the northbound when he slammed head on into a car driven by a 17 year old boy. The driver had a traumatic brain injury, concussion, torn arteries in his heart and a ruptured spleen.

The drunk driver had a blood alcohol level that was double the legal limit. The commonwealth’s attorney stated that the driver’s behavior was outrageous and had devastating impacts on the family of the victim, as well as the victim himself.

The drunk driver was sentenced on two counts of felony maiming, and received five years for each count. He also continued to drink and drive after this incident, which led the court to impose the maximum sentence.

Our Virginia personal injury law firm strongly condemns drunk driving, which leads to devastating injuries and deaths that change families forever. We hope that this young man recovers as quickly as possible.

Anyone who has been hurt by a drunk driver should always seek out an experienced personal injury attorney. Firms such as ours only represent the families of drunk driver victims. These victims deserve to be compensated for their injuries and suffering.

This is especially true for people who have suffered traumatic brain injuries. It can take a very long time to recover from such injuries, and the medical care they need can be very expensive. We hope the family in this case gets the justice they deserve in civil court.
