Senator’s Wife and Daughter Suffer Serious Injuries in Chain Reaction Car Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Lara Reid and Lana Barringer, the wife and daughter of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) were seriously injured in a major car wreck on Interstate 95 (I-95). Mrs. Reid suffered a broken neck, broken back and broken nose, according to justicenewsflash.com. Both Mrs. Reid and her daughter received medical treatment at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Virginia (VA). Mrs. Reid had to undergo surgery for her injuries.

Here’s a video of a  news report on this car crash…

The wreck was categorized as a “chain reaction” crash involving a mini-van, tractor trailer, SUV and sedan, according to Politico. Mrs. Reid and her daughter were driving in the mini-van (a Honda Odyssey) and were stopping for traffic ahead when they were rear ended by the tractor trailer (who failed to stop) and the Odyssey hit a car.

The driver of the tractor trailer was charged with reckless driving, according to the Associated Press.

Our firm has written about chain reaction car accidents and the havoc that can ensue from this type of wreck. It’s also especially problematic after the crash trying to work with your insurance company (and the other driver’s insurance companies) to determine liability. Obtaining a copy of the accident report is a good way to start figuring this issue out. The fact that charges have been brought against the tractor trailer driver will also help clarify fault.

One bright spot in this terrible accident is the fact that Mrs. Reid and her daughter survived (both were wearing their seat belts). Given the fact that their mini-van was crushed from both ends, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that this accident could have been a lot worse.
