WBTV reported a school bus had stopped to let some students off at a store where they worked, and several cars and pickup trucks were stopped behind the bus, as required by law. The driver of a box truck did not see the stopped traffic and crashed into the cars, causing some of them to catch fire. The multivehicle wreck claimed the life of a 60-year-old man.

The owners of the store to which the students were headed told reporters that they have requested that a turn lane be installed in front of the business. A turn lane would give drivers entering the parking lot a place to safely slow down, or in the case of the bus, to drop off passengers. To date, their request has fallen on deaf ears. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a car accident like this one to prompt officials to take action.

Our thoughts go out to the family of the deceased victim. In a trying time like this, it is important to have someone who is somewhat removed from the incident, yet still compassionate, to assist in gathering information and filing any necessary claims. An experienced North Carolina wrongful death attorney can alleviate some of the family’s burden so they have time to grieve and make personal arrangements.
