Two Charlotte, North Carolina men were killed on I-77 in South Carolina while another was injured on Monday, August 24. The Herald of Rock Hill reported that 39-year-old Jose Mario Guzman, and his brother, 33-year-old Thomas Guzman were both killed when their work truck ran off of Interstate 77 and into a cluster of trees around 2:30 today. A third man, 42-year-old Mario Lavato was injured in the fatal SC car accident.
The men were traveling from Columbia to Charlotte when their truck veered off the road for unknown reasons, hitting interstate signs and cashing into trees before coming to a stop. The Ford F250 truck ran off the right side of the road. The truck was carrying a 16-foot flatbed trailer at the time of the SC car accident. All three men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the South Carolina accident.
The York County coroner confirmed the identities of the men involved in the single-vehicle I-77 accident. The NC brothers both died at the scene of the car accident, while Lavato was rushed to the Piedmont Medical Center for treatment for his car accident injuries. The accident took place just miles from the Chester County line.
South Carolina State Police say the car accident is still under investigation. Officials are not sure whether speed, drugs, or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
