Suffolk, VA Pickup-SUV Wreck Injures Three People | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A driver and passenger in a SUV had to be cut free from their vehicle and flown by the Nightingale medevac helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after they collided with a pickup truck on South Quay Road in Suffolk, Virginia (VA). Police investigating the March 15, 2012, crash say the pickup driver caused the accident by pulling out into the path of the SUV and that the SUV rolled over several times after the collision.

The driver of the pickup truck also suffered serious injuries but was taken by ambulance to Southampton Memorial Hospital. It is unclear whether any criminal charges will be filed against the at-fault driver.

Regardless of whether police cite the pickup truck driver for any traffic violations, I know as a Virginia persona injury attorney that the crash illustrates both the dangers of failing to yield the right of way to oncoming vehicles and of rollover accidents. Entering a road or highway without allowing space to do so safely is a major cause of collisions that leave victims hospitalized or dead. And any time a vehicle turns onto its roof, the people inside are likely to suffer head and brain injuries that leave them disabled for life — if they survive at all.
