Recently a taxi driver was struck and killed by another motorist who turned out to be driving while under the influence. The victim was operating the taxi cab for Charlotte’s “Speedy Cab” company, and was making a left turn when the at-fault driver slammed into the cab. The victim was thrown from the vehicle and died while en route to the hospital. The at-fault driver fled the scene on foot but was picked up by police shortly thereafter; he was subsequently charged with the felonies of death-by-vehicle and hit-and-run, driving while impaired (DWI) and driving on a revoked license; police also noted that both speed and alcohol were factors in this crash.
