Tips to Follow if You are in a Car Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What happened:

A recent report on WVIR News offered tips to drivers regarding the steps they should take immediately following a car accident.

Although an accident can be a very traumatic experience, it’s important to try to remain calm. Always check for injuries and call police immediately.  Also, if possible, try to pull the vehicles involved in the accident out of the way of traffic. Too many times accidents are compounded because other vehicles driving by end up hitting into the accident vehicles not pulled over.

Many insurance companies offer mobile apps for phones which make it easier to document details of the accident while still fresh.  It’s also a good idea to use the camera in your phone to photograph the damage to vehicles, as well as any landmarks, such as traffic lights or stop signs.

It’s also important to make the call to your insurance carrier as soon as possible to enable them to begin their investigation, including obtaining witness statements and other accident information.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer Perspective:

If you are hurt in an accident caused by another driver, it’s also important to contact a Virginia personal injury attorney.  Accident injuries can have long-term effects, including pain, loss of work and loss of income. An experience attorney can help you get the compensation you may be entitled to.
