Tractor Trailer Accident on I-85 in Gastonia Results in Injuries | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A tractor trailer jackknifed on I-85 in Gastonia, North Carolina (NC) and swiped a car. According to WCNC.com,  injuries occurred in the accident.

Many questions remain about this accident, the most pressing of which is – what caused the truck driver to lose control of his vehicle? Was he distracted or drowsy? Was he carrying too much weight? We will have to wait and see what the accident report reveals.

Unfortunately, when a big rig is involved in a wreck, the damage and injuries are routinely far worse than when two compact cars hit each other. To make matters worse, the vast size difference between the tractor trailer and the car usually means the driver of the car, and any passengers, bear the brunt of the wreck.

For example, our firm handled a case where a truck rear-ended a car which caused the car to catch fire. The passenger inside the car was burned to death. Just think, if it was a rear-end accident between two cars, this level of damage and tragic consequences probably wouldn’t have occurred. We represented the young daughter of the victim and were able to secure a $3.5 million settlement through mediation.
