Tractor Trailer Driver Charged With Reckless Driving in Chesapeake

The driver of a tractor trailer in Chesapeake, Virginia crashed yesterday and has been charged with reckless driving.

Media reports stated that the accident occurred on I-664  southbound at the 13 mile marker exit ramp that leads to US-58. The 2007 Freightliner Tractor, which was hauling a refrigerated trailer, lost control, flew off the left side of the road and flipped.

The driver was charged by Virginia State Police with reckless driving and failing to maintain control. He was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The accident investigation is still ongoing.

As truck accident attorneys in our law practice in Virginia, we know that too many truck accidents occur because of reckless driving. Reckless driving always is dangerous but it can be deadly with a big rig. If someone is convicted of reckless driving, it is a Class 1 misdemeanor, which can result in one year in jail and a six month license suspension at least. Fines can be up to $2500, and for truck drivers, their commercial driver’s license could be suspended.

Most reckless driving involving trucks usually involves driving too fast. Other common reckless driving charges against all drivers include:

·         Passing a school bus that is stopped.

·         Passing cars at a railroad crossing.

·         Driving too fast in bad weather or in darkness.

·         Not using brakes properly.

·         Improper vehicle control.

·         Street racing.

·         Not yielding right of way.

All car and truck drivers should always take care to drive carefully and to never drive in a reckless fashion.
