Tragic Accident in Asheville Results in Death of Newlyweds | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Jamie Soukup Reid and Will Reid (Seattletimes.com, 8-15-13) were married for less than three months before both of their lives were taken in a terrible accident that occurred in Asheville, North Carolina (NC). If that wasn’t bad enough, Mrs. Reid was expecting her first child.

Mrs. Reid was only 25-years-old and Mr. Reid was only 26. When the paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident, Mr. Reid selflessly asked that his pregnant wife be treated before him. Unfortunately, Mrs. Reid died at the scene of the crash and Mr. Reid passed away later during surgery.

The details of the accident are few and far between. What we know, as of the date of this posting, is that Mr. and Mrs. Reid were in a Lincoln Town Car that was driven by another individual. The Reids were in Asheville to attend a friend’s wedding, according to seattlestimes.com; see the story here:

The newly married couple hired a limo driver to take them back to the Asheville Regional Airport. The driver reportedly veered out of control, went down a bank and slammed into a tree.

As personal injury lawyers, we read and hear about terrible accidents on a frequent basis. Nevertheless, this accident is especially tragic. Both Mr. and Mrs. Reid were school teachers who were headed home to prepare for a new school year. Reports indicate that Mrs. Reid had an ultrasound picture of their new baby in the car at the time of the wreck. It’s so frustrating to read about a wreck that takes the lives of two innocent people who had such bright futures ahead of them.

Our deepest condolences go out to their loved ones.

The driver who lost control of the Town Car remains incapacitated, so police are waiting until he re-gains consciousness before questioning him about the wreck. Criminal charges may be forthcoming.
