Tragic Accident in Woodbridge Results in Death of Pedestrian | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A tragic accident occurred in Woodbridge, Virginia (VA). A woman named Sally Ann Okuly (named in opposingviews.com article) was crossing the street (with the light giving her the right of way) when she was hit by a car. Mrs. Okuly, a cancer survivor and survivor of a major motorcycle accident, was going out to get coffee at her local WaWa when she was hit and lost her life. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Okuly family. Losing a loved one is never easy, but the pain is made even worse when the loss is sudden and unexpected. To make matters worse, Mrs. Okuly was just one week out from her 41st wedding anniversary.  The driver who hit Mrs. Okuly is facing charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and reckless driving. Unfortunately, when pedestrians are hit by vehicles, the outcome is usually terrible, especially for the pedestrian. According to the National Safety Council, nearly 6,000 pedestrians are killed in auto wrecks every year, with almost 84,000 pedestrian accidents resulting in injuries.
