Truck Driver Hit and Killed in Suffolk, VA | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Driving at night is hard, but driving through fog at night is even harder. I know. I’ve driven in fog so thick, I could barely see past my headlights. On one such foggy morning, a tractor-trailer pulled out onto the highway in front of me.  It took me a few seconds to register that the tanker was making a u-turn, its slow moving trailer blocking all three lanes as it swung around.  I had to drastically reduce speed to avoid hitting the truck.

Monday morning one unsuspecting motorist was not so lucky.  A tractor trailer stopped, backed up and tried to turn around on South Quay Road in Suffolk, Virginia (VA).  Tragically, a motorist driving a pick-up hit the truck which was blocking his lane and was killed as a result.  Fog that reduced visibility on the road may have been a factor in the crash, according to a Suffolk spokes woman.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the driver who was killed in this accident.  Losing a loved one is always hard, losing one unexpectedly is even worse, especially when it could have been prevented.

There are many questions that need to be answered about this terrible truck crash, but we’ll have to wait and see what the full accident report reveals to see what could have been done to prevent this wreck.
