Truck Hauling Logs Overturns in Petersburg, VA | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A truck hauling logs overturned on the I-95 exit ramp to eastbound Route 460 in Petersburg, Virginia (VA). The logs spilled onto the highway, and the driver reportedly suffered injuries, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Police continue to investigate this wreck, so we do not know what exactly caused the tractor-trailer to suddenly flip and lose its load. Was the driver distracted or drowsy? Was there a mechanical issue with the truck itself? Were the logs properly fastened to the truck? We will have to wait and see what the investigation reveals.

Fortunately, no one was killed in the Petersburg truck accident. Unfortunately, that is not always the case when a large truck is involved in a wreck. In fact, in many tractor-trailer accidents, major damage occurs and people either suffer serious injuries or lose their life.

For example, our Virginia truck accident law firm handled a case in which a car was rear-ended by a large, commercial tractor-trailer on I-264 in Norfolk, VA. Our client, a native of Portsmouth, was a passenger in the car and lost his life after the car caught fire. His only surviving beneficiary was his 5-year-old daughter, for whom we were able to secure a $3.5 million settlement.
