Two Adults and Child Die in I-77 in Virginia

Two adults and a child died in a fiery crash on I-77 near Wytheville, Virginia (VA).

According to the Virginia State Police, a car going northbound crossed over the median and slammed into another car going southbound. That car then was hit by another vehicle, which caused a fire to break out.

The driver of the northbound car died of his injuries at a hospital. The driver of the second car and her nine month-old daughter also died at the hospital.

Our personal injury law firm sends our deepest condolences to the victims in this terrible tragedy. We have seen the tragic results of these types of crashes all too many times. Our legal team has worked on many wrongful death lawsuits, and we often see questions from families, such as, what types of damages can the family collect in a wrongful death lawsuit?

In Virginia, the beneficiaries in this type of civil lawsuit can receive monetary damages for mental anguish, loss of solace, sorrow, lost income, protection, care and assistance. A damage award can also include compensation for medical costs, hospital expenses, and funeral costs.

In some cases, punitive damages can be awarded in a wrongful death suit to punish the person who caused the death. However, punitive damages only are awarded if the actions of the guilty person can be shown in court to have been extremely reckless.
