I-80 through Lincoln, Nebraska was shut down for nine hours over the weekend after slick roads and winds led to a fatal crash between two tractor trailers.
A truck driver from Illinois perished when the truck he was driving slammed into another truck on the interstate. That driver was transported to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries. The other truck driver was unhurt.
The truck crash happened at 8 AM Sunday morning and forced drivers to detour for several hours.
It was reported that one of the trucks had stalled before it was hit. The entire cab was torn off in the crash.
The truck crash was blamed largely on icy roads and poor visibility.
Our personal injury law firm has seen many truck crashes over the years that have led to death and injury. We also have seen many cases where icy roads and trucks were a lethal mix. One of our clients lost control of his car on black ice. His car rolled, but he was able to get out. Sadly, a tractor trailer then lost control of his truck on the same ice, slammed into our client and killed him. We successfully argued that truck drivers have a higher level of responsibility because they are commercial drivers. We were able to settle that case for a large amount.
