U-Turn on 1-40 Outside Wilmington Leads To Serious Injuries | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

A terrible accident on I-40 in Wilmington, North Carolina blocked traffic for hours Thursday afternoon. The collision involved a truck with a utility trailer and a Honda Accord.

Police say that around lunchtime on Thursday, the driver of the Ford F250 truck hauling a utility trailer made a U-turn on the interstate near mile marker 403. The car behind him, a Honda Accord, struck the back of the trailer as it was still in the lane of traffic. The Honda then hit the median, flipped over once and finally came to a rest on the driver’s side.

The driver of the Accord was airlifted from the scene of the accident after emergency workers decided her injuries were serious enough to warrant the helicopter evacuation. North Carolina Troopers say the woman is now believed to be in stable condition.

So far police say they are continuing their investigation and that charges related to the accident are pending.

The North Carolina Injury Attorney’s Perspective:

Thankfully news reports indicate that the woman injured in the wreck did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Given this risk, it may be helpful to contact a North Carolina car accident attorney to determine what long-term effects might be expected and if the victim should file a claim for compensation for her resulting injuries.
