A family in Virginia Beach has filed a lawsuit against a home health care agency for $50 million, after their family member died in a mobile home fire in 2014.
The mobile home was located in Virginia Beach at Detroiter Avenue. It went up in flames last October. One of the 35 year-old men living in the property was disabled and could not escape the blaze.
The man suffered from cerebral palsy and lived much of his life in nursing care facilities and got tired of it. So, he hired Hand in Heart Home Health to provide him with 24/7 care.
He was able to live on his own in his trailer with assistance from that home health care agency. However, the night of the fire, the night nurse could not come to the residence due to a family emergency. The lawsuit claims that the agency did not send a replacement and would not let the on duty nurse at the residence work a double shift.
