VA Train Wreck Results in Death to Truck Driver | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A man, age 51, was instantly killed when his pickup truck collided with an Amtrak train in New Kent County, Virginia (VA), according to WVEC and The Associated Press

The man, a resident of Wakefield, VA, died at the scene when he attempted to cross the tracks.  The train, carrying 125 passengers, hit his pickup. None of the passengers on the train, traveling from Richmond area to Newport News, were injured.  The truck-train crash occurred on a Friday morning in Lanexa, VA.

State Police said the accident occurred on private property with a railroad crossing sign, without any arm-bars or signals.  The exact details of what caused the train-truck accident remained under investigation.

This VA mass transit wreck is a stark reminder for trains to sound audible signals at train tracks so drivers can yield the right of way, and for drivers to pay attention to signals so not only their lives, but the lives of train passengers, won’t be put at risk.
