In his latest post to the Virginia Beach Injuryboard, my colleague Randy Appleton notes with approval that Virginia Beach police officers made nine DUI arrests at nighttime checkpoints set up across the resort city on St. Patrick’s Day. Such efforts are essential to reduce the number of fatal drunk and drugged driving car, truck and pedestrian accidents. Randy observes, however, that DUI deaths and injuries will only stop occurring when people who drink or take drugs stay out of the driver’s seat.
