Virginia Beach, VA Teen Injured in Drunk Driving Accident | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

As summer vacation for Virginia Beach, VA, students officially begins this Friday, June 17, 2011, teens look forward to the freedom from school nights and homework. Unfortunately, underage drinking sometimes accompanies teen social activities.

Around 3:45 am on Thursday morning, a teenage girl was seriously injured in an alcohol-related single-car crash that also left the drunk driver injured. According to the Virginian-Pilot, the female passenger was riding with an 18-year-old male, also of Virginia Beach, in a Buick sedan on Revere Drive in Salem Woods. Police believe the driver was speeding when he lost control and hit a tree.

Neither person was wearing a seat belt. The girl was initially taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, and later moved to Sentara Norfolk with life-threatening injuries. The driver sustained less serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital. He has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal possession of alcohol.

I am a personal injury lawyer in Virginia Beach, and I have handled many car accident cases involving alcohol and drunk drivers. My thoughts and sympathies go out to the passenger as she is cared for at Sentara Norfolk.
