According to the State Patrol, a Virginia man was recently killed when the pickup truck he was driving ran into the back of a tractor-trailer truck on Interstate 85 in Franklin County. The victim, Sylvester Journey, 57, of Portsmouth, Va., was the pickup’s only occupant.
The driver of the 18 wheeler told the investigating trooper that the pickup truck did not slow down after the northbound tractor-trailer slowed down because of existing slower traffic that was ahead of him.
Truck underride or truck override accidents are often the most serious accident of all. They often result in the deaths of people in the smaller vehicle when a car slides under the truck (an underride accident) or when a truck runs over the vehicle in front (an override accident).
