A 69-year-old man from Mineral, Virginia (VA), was killed in Reston on February 1, 2012, when, according to the Washington Post, he was helping a tractor-trailer driver back out of a parking lot. The victim stepped into Fox Mill Road and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, who stated he didn’t see the man in the road, has been charged with failure to pay full attention.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim who was just doing a good deed. Even though speed and alcohol do not appear to have caused this tragic car accident, the driver can still be held liable for causing a wrongful death. While money will not bring a loved one back, the family may be eligible for damages based on lost wages, medical bills, and emotional distress, among others. Contacting a Virginia car accident attorney will help them determine their proper course of action.
