Virginia Woman Sentenced in Fatal Hit and Run Crash | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A woman in Richmond, Virginia hit and killed a man with her car in April, as she was driving in the Shockoe Bottom area of the city. She fled the scene. The woman received a sentence this week of 500 hours of community service, a two year suspended jail sentence, and a one year driver’s license suspension.

The woman was found guilty in August of leaving an accident scene where injury or death occurred. Another man also was hit by her car and injured, WSLS reported.

The Virginia Lawyer’s Perspective:

Our hearts go out to the family of the man who died in this terrible tragedy. Careless driving and fleeing an accident scene are wrong, and we are glad this driver has been punished. The family of the deceased should contact a Virginia personal injury lawyer. Even though the driver has been found guilty and sentenced, this does not preclude you from seeking financial restitution in a civil law suit.
