Extensive Criminal and Drunk Driving Record for Driver Charged in Fatal Crash"

A 23-year-old Statesville woman – who police say has already amassed a substantial criminal and drunk driving record – has been charged for an accident which claimed the life of her 26-year-old male passenger. The accident occurred on Mount Tabor Church Road near Cleveland, N.C. in the early morning hours of Sunday. The passenger was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Police administrated field sobriety tests on the driver at the scene of the accident. According to reports from law enforcement, she performed “unsatisfactorily.” Police also noted that her speech and actions were slow.

The driver allegedly admitted to police that at approximately 6 pm on Saturday, she consumed Norco, which is often referred to as “hillbilly heroin;” Xanax at approximately 9 pm on Saturday; and one or two beers between 11 and 11:30 pm Saturday. Police say the driver passed out in the back of the Highway Patrol Car while being transported after the accident.

The driver’s criminal and drunk driving history goes back to 2013 when she was placed on probation (for which she is currently still serving) after being found guilty of five counts of felony breaking and entering, larceny of a firearm, two counts breaking and entering a motor vehicle, obtaining property by false pretense, nine counts of larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana in that case.

This year alone, she was already facing charges for driving while impaired, driving left of center and a hit and run in which she is accused of failing to stop or notify police of property damage in Iredell County.

The driver has been charged with driving while impaired and aggravated felony death by vehicle. Bond has been set at $100,000 and she is currently being held at the Rowan County Detention Center.
