Woman Charged With Hit and Run After Man Dies Crossing Road in Hampton, Virginia (VA) | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

Edward Bruton, 58, was crossing W. Mercury Boulevard at Shreck Drive when he was struck by a Toyota Camry on April 14, 2011, the Daily Press reported. Police said the driver left the scene, and a woman from Hampton, Virginia (VA), has been charged with felony hit-and-run as a result of the accident.

Our experienced Virginia car accident attorneys reported how this incident was one of a number in which pedestrians have been hurt or killed recently in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Given the circumstances and the criminal charge involved this hit-and-run incident clearly becomes a wrongful death case.

While losing a loved one is bad enough, it is even more traumatic if the driver leaves the scene. Earlier this year our Virginia Beach based wrongful death attorneys noted how, a man walking down Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth, Virginia, VA  was killed after he was struck by a vehicle.

In that case the vehicle left the scene and didn’t return, police said. The accident took place close to the intersection of  Deep Creek Boulevard. A 34-year-old man was later indicted on charges of leaving the scene and reckless driving.

Nor was the tragic accident on W. Mercury Blvd. the only one to occur in Hampton this month. A woman was struck by a vehicle and killed on April 16 as she tried to cross Todds Lane at Carr Lane, the Virginian-Pilot reported. This catalogue of pedestrian related accidents in Hampton, also included a pedestrian accident on Old Buckroe Road which left a man in a local hospital with serious injuries. Recently in a post to the Hampton, VA Car & Truck Accident Injury Lawyers blog, my colleague Kevin Duffan noted the dangers of crossing roads.

As experienced Virginia (VA) attorneys working with the victims of car and motorcycle accidents, and their families, we recently passed on advice on what pedestrians and drivers can do to help avert accidents. We noted how in the wake of the spate of incidents involving pedestrians Hampton Police Division issued a list of safety tips to drivers and pedestrians.

Sadly numerous accidents occur on the roads and some have fatal consequences. As Virginia wrongful death lawyers we have been involved in many cases and secured a $2.4 million settlement in 2006 after a father-of-four was hit from behind by a tractor trailer with fatal consequences. In 2007 we obtained a quick lawsuit settlement in the wrongful death case of a child who was killed in a car crash on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
