Woman Killed in I-81 Wreck After a Tractor-Trailer Slammed Into Her Vehicle | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

What Happened:

A woman from Franconia, Virginia (VA) was killed in an awful wreck that occurred on Interstate 81 (I-81) in Pulaski County, VA. The victim was driving her 2006 Ford Escape SUV when the driver of a tractor-trailer behind her swerved to avoid hitting cars stopped because of a lane closure. The big rig swerved to the left to avoid the traffic and slammed into the Escape. The collision sent the SUV into the rear of another tractor-trailer. The victim died at the scene.

The at-fault driver of the tractor-trailer, a resident of Ashburn, has been charged with reckless driving, according to Kingstowne-Rosehill Patch.com.

The Virginia Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

The victim’s family should speak to a Virginia wrongful death attorney to discuss their legal options. The family probably has grounds to seek justice through a wrongful death claim given the facts presently available in this awful accident. The family should also know that just because the at-fault driver is facing criminal charges does not preclude the family from pursuing a claim through the civil justice system.
