Wreck in Wilmington on Independence Boulevard Results in Death of Passenger | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

An accident near the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington, North Carolina (NC) resulted in the death of an innocent passenger.  A Jeep was traveling down Independence Boulevard when the driver suddenly veered in front of an oncoming SUV and flipped over.  John Jackson, Jr. died in the accident. He was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Jeep that flipped over, according to wect.com. He was only 53 years old. Other passengers were involved in the wreck. They had to be taken a local hospital for their injuries. Our deepest conoldences go out to the Jackson family. Losing a loved one is always heartbreaking, but the pain is made even worse when the loss is sudden and completely unexpected. To think, in the blink of an eye, Mr. Jackson’s life came to an abrupt and tragic end. What caused this terrible accident? The details of what exactly caused the Jeep to flip over remain unknwon, as of the date of this posting. However, we do know that the driver of the Jeep was charged with driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle.  It is so frustrating to hear about tragic accidents where an innocent party was killed or hurt by the reckless and irresponsible decisions of a driver. The driver in this incident appears to have made the terrible decision to operate a vehicle while impaired. If only they had exercised more caution, this awful wreck may have been avoided.  Unfortunately, far too many drivers throw caution to the wind and get the behind the wheel of an automobile after drinking or taking substances that cause impairment. In fact, in 2012, 33.8 percent of all fatal accidents in North Carolina were caused by impaired drivers, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
