According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are almost two million people who experience a traumatic brain injury in the United States each year. Approximately 275,00 are hospitalized and more than 50,000 die because of their injuries.
Traumatic brain injuries occur from either a blow or strike to the head. The most common cause of brain injuries is falling. Car accidents are the third most leading cause, followed by assault.
Some brain injuries are caused by jarring motions and not from actual contact to the head. This motion causes the brain to shake inside the skull, which can cause swelling and bruising.
