State Trooper Hit by Car on I-64 While Trying to Get to an Accident

According to an article in the Virginian Pilot, a state trooper was taken to the hospital after her motorcycle collided with a car driven by a Hampton University student who said she was late for a test.  “Trooper Becky Curl was riding a motorcycle on I-64 near Settlers Landing Road, and was on her way to a crash at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel,” said Sgt. Michelle Cotton, state police spokeswoman.  Curl had the lights and sirens on her motorcycle on.

Cotton said the driver of a Kia had been driving on the shoulder of the road when she spotted Curl.  The driver tried to get out of Curl’s way and attempted to get back into the flow of traffic, but was not successful.  When Curl tried to maneuver around the Kia, she clipped the side of the car and went down.

Curl was admitted to Riverside Regional Medical Center and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, including several fractures.  The driver of the Kia was charged with improper passing on the shoulder.
