Early Morning Richmond Truck Accidents Slows I-95 Traffic In Virginia | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

A Virginia commercial truck accident snarled morning rush hour traffic in the Richmond area on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. The one-vehicle truck accident took place in the darkness of the early hours of the day and slowed traffic flow until around 7:30 a.m. on Powhite Parkway.

According to authorities, the single-truck accident involved an 18-wheeler carrying beverages, though it is not clear why the semi lost control or what caused the accident to take place. The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident and has not been cited by Virginia State Police for any traffic violations.

This crash follows a serious truck accident that took place on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 on I-95 South near Henrico, Virginia. This semi accident occurred just after six in the evening when a Virginia State Police spokesperson stated that an SUV hydroplaned on wet roads, colliding with a tractor-trailer carrying a load of recyclable glass. The truck left the right side of the interstate and tipped onto its side, spilling its cargo.

The crash, which was located near I-295 to I-64 Highway West exit, slowed evening rush hour traffic. At the same time, the trucker involved in the accident suffered serious injuries while the driver of the SUV only had minor injuries and was evaluated at the scene. The truck driver is expected to recover.

Crews worked to clean up the spilled glass, which clogged the shoulder and median on the interstate. The removal of the glass and the truck took several hours.

Both Virginia truck accidents are currently under investigation.
