Jury to Decide How Case Norfolk Police Recruit Case Should Be Litigated | Shapiro, Washburn & Sharp

My colleague Jim Lewis is representing the family of a Norfolk police recruit who suffered multiple blows to the head by a police instructor and wound up dying from severe brain trauma. The city of Norfolk is arguing that the case should be moved to Roanoke, Virginia (VA) and should be decided as a worker’s compensation issue. Jim is arguing that the case should be heard by a Norfolk jury and should be decided as a wrongful death case.

A Circuit Court judge agreed with Jim’s argument and decided that this case should be heard by a jury. We are happy with the judge’s decision, but this is only the beginning of the process. Fortunately, the family’s case is in good hands. Jim has been practicing law for over 30 years and spent the majority of his career advocating for his clients in a court room.
